Barry was one of Mark Hughes' first big signings at Manchester City after he was handed millions of pound of Abu Dhabi cash while still in charge of the Citizens. Barry had carved out a niche as one of the Premier League's best midfielders while at Aston Villa but has not quite been able to repeat that at Eastlands.

But for England, Barry remains one of the most consistent performers, sitting in between the midfield and defence, sweeping up loose balls and feeding his more attacking team-mates like Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.
