He is a tall, right-footed left winger, who can also operate as a central striker. Jesper impressed with some fine performances in Euro 2000 to subsequently earn a £7.8 million move from Ajax to Chelsea.

Jesper began his career at AaB Aalborg and played for them in the European Champions League while still at school.

He moved on to Ajax in 1998 who were then coached by Morten Olsen. In his first season for Ajax he made his international debut for Denmark in March 1999.

His first year for Chelsea was not good as he was sidelined with an injury until January 2001.

His career at Chelsea lasted four years, and his erratic form caused much frustration for Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri and the Chelsea fans. However, at his best he could tear past even the best full-backs and he created some great and important goals for the club.

While at Chelsea, Gronkjaer became a regular in the Danish national team under new national team coach Morten Olsen, and he played in all of Denmark's four games at the 2002 World Cup.

Spells at Birmingham, Atletico Madrid and Stuttgart were not productive and in the summer of 2006 he went back to Denmark and FC Copenhagen.

Unfortunately injuries restricted the number of appearances from 2007 until 2009 but when he did play he was always a threat to the opposition.
