One of the most respected right-backs in the world, Maicon was able to successfully replace a World Cup legend in the Brazilian team. The gap left by Cafu's retirement from the Selecao was big, but the Inter man was up to the task.

The 28-year-old was already a big part of the success of Roberto Mancini's Inter when he finally established himself as the starting right-back of the national team.
