Confederation of African Football Association (Caf) have cancelled Zesco United match against Al Hilal El Obied of Sudan.

The Confederation Cup fixture was scheduled for Sunday in Zambia but Caf have cancelled the same following Fifa ban on Sudanese FA. The Fifa ban on Sudan technically locks out El Obied out of the club competition according to a letter signed by Caf acting General Secretary Essam Ahmed.

Jesse Were on target as Zesco United eliminates Smouha

Zesco is home to Kenyan trio Jesse Were, Anthony Akumu and David Owino. Zesco said ​in a statement that ​they will refund fans, who had bought tickets for the match that was set to be played on Sunday, July 9, 2017.

“This serves to inform our sponsors, fans and stakeholders that the Caf Confederation Cup match 149 that was scheduled to be between Zesco United. Consequently, El Hilal El Obied club is not allowed to participate in Caf matches and it’s disqualified from CAf interclub competitions in accordance to Fifa's decision.

Jesse Were returns with goal for Zesco United

“The aforementioned match is hereby cancelled and will not take place as scheduled. The final situation of Group C of the competition will be announced soon. We appeal to our fans who bought pre-sale tickets for the match to visit our secretariat for their refunds.”
