Despite losing in Damaturu, Solomon Ogbeide's men have been praised for their all-action play against the Nigerian top-flight new boys

Yobe Desert Stars’ striker Mohammed Abdulmalik says Lobi Stars showed reason why they are early pacesetters in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League campaign.

Chinedu Ohanachom's second-half strike saw the Damaturu side triumph over their impressive visitors in Wednesday's duel at the August 27 Stadium.

“It was a tough game. I have to thumb up Lobi Stars for giving us a good fight. I am not surprised that they were the league leaders before the game because they played very well and were only unlucky to lose,” Abdulmalik told Goal.

“The technical crew told us before the start of the match that we could not afford not to pick the maximum points because of our last result away to Akwa United which we lost 2-0. We were told that the only way we could win is to continue to pile pressure on them throughout the encounter.

“When it was goalless at halftime our coach [Mohammed Babaganaru] still reminded us that we should continue to do our best and not allow anything to distract us from achieving our target.

“You could see the smiles on the fans and our faces as soon as the ball crossed the line for our opening goal. We still wanted to get more but we were unable,” he added.
