Yedlin in, Pulisic out - USMNT makes changes ahead of Ireland and France friendlies

United States national team interim head coach Dave Sarachan has made multiple changes to his roster ahead of friendlies against Ireland and France, with Christian Pulisic among those headed home.

The USMNT managed an easy victory on Monday in Chester, PA, as they defeated Bolivia 3-0 in the first of their three summer friendlies.

Teenagers Tim Weah and Josh Sargent each opened their senior team accounts in the win, as did defender Walker Zimmerman, who scored the first goal of the evening for the USMNT.

Pulisic failed to make an impact in the contest, though he went 89 minutes in the victory.

After a long season with Dortmund and no World Cup to prepare for, Pulisic is among seven players who will not take part in the friendlies in Europe.

Zimmerman also will miss out, along with Monday’s starter in goal Alex Bono, and substitutes Lynden Gooch and Matthew Olosunde. Alejandro Guido and Ethan Horvath, who did not play against Bolivia, also depart.

In their place Sarachan has called 10 players up, as more options came available as the next two friendlies take place during a FIFA international window.

Newcastle defender DeAndre Yedlin and New York Red Bulls midfielder Tyler Adams headline the list, while Hamburg’s Bobby Wood has also been called up.

Goalkeepers Zack Steffen and William Yarbrough both received calls, as did defenders Shaq Moore and Tim Parker. Midfielders Wil Trapp, Kenny Saief and Luca de la Torre round out the additions.

“We’re excited about the chance to add some of the veterans from Europe as well as the younger guys in MLS who have been part of our group since November,” Sarachan said in a statement. “The games against Ireland and France will bring increasingly more difficult challenges, so we felt it was important to bring in some players that offer a bit more experience.

“These matches will provide another big development opportunity for these players who are growing in their international careers.”

Moore, de la Torre, Parker will all be looking to make their senior team debuts having featured for the U.S. at youth levels previously. Moore and Parker have been on the bench for prior USMNT friendlies, but did not get onto the field.

The USMNT will square off against Ireland on June 2 in Dublin, followed by a friendly against World Cup favorites France on June 9 in Lyon.
