The Netherlands international's previous deal was due to expire at the end of this season and the likes of Liverpool and Everton had been credited with an interest in the left-back.

However, Willems has now inked a one-year extension in order to make sure PSV receive a transfer fee if he decides to seek pastures new in the future.

"I told sporting director Marcel Brands last season that I would not leave PSV on a free transfer," Willems commented on his renewal.

"Everybody expected me to leave ahead of this season, but that was never my intention. PSV have a place in my heart and I want to win a third Eredivisie title in a row."

Willems joined PSV from Sparta Rotterdam in 2011 and has since made close to 200 appearances in all competitions for the reigning Eredivisie champions.

The 22-year-old has won two league titles in Eindhoven, as well as one KNVB Beker and three Johan Cruyff shields.
