The Eagles sit rock bottom of the English topflight log but the tactician believes with the winger fit, the team stand a chance of beating the drop

Former Crystal Palace manager Steve Coppell believes Wilfried Zaha can help the club retain their English Premier League status.

The Eagles have had a torrid start to the season, becoming the first team in English football history to lose their first seven league games of the season without scoring a single goal.

He netted the winner in their 2-1 win against Chelsea to give them their first points of the season and scored a 97th-minute leveller in Saturday's 2-2 draw against West Ham.

And the former Manchester City handler opined that a fully fit Zaha will be instrumental in helping Palace escape relegation, coupled with the experience of Hodgson.

"It's a big hole they've created for whatever reason," he told ESPN.

"Now, Roy has come in, and he is very, very solid. He knows his football.

"A critical component of Crystal Palace doing well is Zaha, as he has proven since he came back into the team.

“The team won against Chelsea and picked up a point on Saturday because of his goal.

"He has got to remain fit and with the organisation that Roy will bring, the team will have a chance."
