Gor Mahia have explained why they picked Willis ‘Awilo’ Ochieng’ for the position of goalkeeper trainer after parting ways with Mathews Ottamax.
Prior to his appointment, 'Awilo' was one of the candidates for the K’Ogalo post, the other one being former Tusker trainer Charles ‘Korea’ Omondi.
'Korea' was the first to get into talks with the Green Army handling the team for a few days before the former Zoo Kericho trainer, who even traveled with the team to Uganda for their friendly match against Onduparaka FC, was approached.
Chairman Ambrose Rachier has admitted that the two had quality CVs for the job but 'Awilo' was finally picked after considering a number of factors.
“You know, both of them were qualified for the job but at the end of the day only one was to be appointed. We almost appointed 'Korea' but he quoted a relatively higher amount of salary which we could not easily afford,” he told Goal.
More changes are still expected on the club’s technical bench as hinted by the chairman.
