The Spurs striker has scored 22 goals in all competitions so far this season but is also eligible for play for Republic of Ireland

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged Roy Hodgson to call-up Tottenham striker Harry Kane for England following his heroics in the north London derby.

The Spurs forward was the match-winner at White Hart Lane scoring twice as the hosts recovered from going a goal down, to beat their neighbours 2-1.

Kane has now scored 22 goals in 34 games so far this season and while he has featured for England at Under-21 level he is eligible to play for Republic of Ireland.

Hodgson was in attendance at White Hart Lane, with England set to face Lithuania in European Championship qualifying at the end of March, and Wenger says Kane deserves a call-up.

“When you have scored the number of goals he has scored, if you don't put him in there somebody else will give him a passport,” he told BBC Sport.

Kane, meanwhile, sought to play down England talk after the match and insists he is simply focused on his continuing his fine form.

"It [the next England game] is not until March and there is a lot of football to play before then,” he added.

“I have just got to keep doing what I am doing and do my best for the team, and we will see what happens.

"I am working on all aspects of my game and when I get in those areas I am confident.

“I am enjoying my football at the moment and playing with a smile on my face.”
