Phoenix 'in a bit of a hole' - Moss

Wellington Phoenix haven't won in four A-League matches and could finish the weekend five points adrift of an A-League finals berth

After back-to-back losses to the A-League's two Sydney clubs, Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Glen Moss conceded his team are struggling.

Sydney FC imperiously swept the Phoenix aside on Thursday night with the A-League leaders triumphing 3-1 at Allianz Stadium.

This followed a loss by the same score last week in New Plymouth against Western Sydney Wanderers.

Western Sydney currently occupy the sixth A-League finals berth on 21 points and could move five ahead of Wellington (19) by the end of this round if they beat Central Coast Mariners on Sunday.

"That's one of our worst first halves of the season and coming off one of our worst performances of the season last week - we're in a bit of a hole," a dejected Moss - who made his 200th A-League appearance against Sydney - told Fox Sports after the game.

"The positive is we have the talent in the side to turn it around.

"And we're still hanging in there for the top six. With enough games to go we can get in there."

The Phoenix are now in a form slump at the wrong time of the season with eight rounds to go.

Wellington will face Melbourne City at home next week in another difficult assignment, followed by a tough run-in to the finals.

The Phoenix will then play seven straight matches against sides currently in the top six including four away matches.

"We just need a few things to go our way. Some victories at home would be nice, obviously the travel hurts us a little," Moss said.
