Dairon Asprilla rose to the occasion Sunday, in more ways than one.
The Portland Timbers winger emphatically buried a towering header just before halftime at Providence Park, giving the home side a 2-1 lead over the rival Seattle Sounders.

A 27th-minute Joevin Jones strike had handed the visitors the lead in the Cascadia Cup clash, but momentum shifted to the Timbers when Sounders defender Brad Evans hauled down Darlington Nagbe in the box just before halftime — prompting a red card and a penalty kick.
Fanendo Adi converted from the spot to tie the match in the 45th minute, and Asprilla nodded home David Guzman's corner kick moments later.
