The veteran U.S. national team midfielder chipped in a shot from long distance to stun El Tri early in the World Cup qualifying match

Michael Bradley knew how to take the energy out of the Estadio Azteca crowd on Sunday night.

The U.S. national team veteran chipped a shot from distance over Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa to give the visiting side an early 1-0 lead in the World Cup qualifier.

In just the sixth minute of the match, Bradley cut off a pass in the midfield and broke forward. Finding himself in space, the USA captain looked up to see Ochoa off his line and decided to try an audacious shot.

The strike was perfectly placed, flying over the El Tri net-minder and under the bar to give Bruce Arena's visiting side an early lead.

That advantage wouldn't last long though.

Mexico struck on the counterattack in the 23rd minute, with Carlos Vela cutting inside of DaMarcus Beasley to pull El Tri level.

Bradley came close to an equally spectacular winner in the second half, striking the outside of the post on a volley hit from distance. That followed moments after Mexico nearly took the lead with a stunning free kick that rattled the underside of the crossbar.

Despite those near misses, neither team could muster up a winner and the contest finished a 1-1 draw.
