WATCH: Martinez lives on the edge and bags brace

Atlanta United striker Josef Martinez knows how to cut it close, and they don’t come much closer than the brace he picked up in a 4-0 rout of the Chicago Fire on Saturday, the club's first home win in its history.

In the 60th minute with Atlanta up 1-0 in the game and also up a man thanks to Johan Kappelhof red card in the 11th minute, Martinez was on the receiving end of a perfectly timed Miguel Almiron throughball. Martinez rounded Fire keeper Jorge Bava and sent his shot into the empty net.

Martinez, who is on loan from Serie A side Torino, just barely stayed on, but it counted all the same.

Then in the 82nd minute with Atlanta up 3-0, Martinez again received a throughball, this time from Yamil Asad, and got past Bava once more. Despite having a very narrow angle to shoot at, the striker snuck it inside the far post for the brace.

That brings Martinez’s goal total up to five on the season in just three games, after his hat trick against fellow expansion side Minnesota United last week.
