Benny Feilhaber may not have been able to crack the U.S. national team’s latest World Cup qualifying squad, but his week is starting to look up.
The attacking midfielder struck a beautiful curling shot from distance in Sporting Kansas City’s match against the San Jose Earthquakes. Hit from outside the area, the ball managed to loop perfectly under the bar, leaving Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham rooted to the spot.
The goal was not only Feilhaber’s first of 2017, but also SKC’s opener for the season, as the side had been held to a pair of scoreless draws in its first two contests.
While Feilhaber's hopes of returning to the national team fold for World Cup qualifying with Bruce Arena's hire may have taken a hit after not being named to the squad Wednesday, strikes like that will surely keep him in the picture going forward.
