VIDEO: Memphis dominates for Lyon against Metz with four assists

Memphis Depay did just about everything for Lyon on Sunday as he was instrumental in the club’s 5-0 victory over Metz.

The attacker was involved in every single one of his side’s five goals in the contest, scoring once and assisting on the other four.

Marcelo scored the first pair of Lyon tallies, before Depay turned provider to scorer for his club’s third. He got in behind the Metz backline and delivered a composed finish to put the game all but out of reach.

Depay then went back to the assisting role on the final two strikes, added by Bertrand Traore and Mariano.

The win brings Lyon up to third place for now, though Marseille, just a point behind in fourth, play later Sunday against Montpellier.

It was the first time a player in any of the five major European leagues managed to contribute four assists since Santi Cazorla did it for Arsenal in May 2013 against Wigan.

No Ligue 1 player has managed four assists in a league game in at least a decade. In fact, no player has managed it during Opta’s history of keeping stats for the league, which dates back to 2006-07.

While Depay’s Manchester United tenure did not go as either side would have hoped, the attacker continues to excel in Ligue 1. Last season, in just half a season with the Ligue 1 giants, Depay managed five goals and seven assists.

This season has gone even better. Depay now has 13 goals and 10 assists in France’s top division this year, and has added three more goals and three more assists in the Europa League.
