Wahbi Khazri stuns Guingamp on Saint Etienne debut

Wahbi Khazri scored a stunner on his Saint Etienne debut, helping them to a 2-1 victory over Guingamp in their maiden Ligue 1 encounter of the 2018-19 season.

In what was the Tunisia World Cup star's maiden competitive outing for Les Verts since switching from Sunderland, he netted a fabulous effort, much to the delight of the fans at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

On the stroke of half-time, Khazri met Lois Diony's teasing cross with a lovely right-footed half-volley past Guingamp goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson to give the hosts the lead.

In the 56th minute, Marcus Thuram levelled proceedings from the penalty spot but Diony's cushioned header off an excellent Thimothee Kolodziejczak centre ensured Jean-Louis Gasset's men kick-started the season on a high.

Khazri featured for the entire duration of the tie and will hope to surpass last season's heroics at Rennes where he netted nine times and delivered several breathtaking displays in 24 Ligue 1 games.

Saint Etienne, sixth in the log, pay Strasbourg a visit for their next French top-flight tie on August 19.
