VIDEO: Pablo Escobar's Panenka fail costs The Strongest dear

He can look at the pitch all he wants, but the Patron of Goals' normally iron nerve failed him to send Santos through in the Libertadores

There is a time and a place for a good Panenka penalty - and Pablo Escobar's scuffed effort for The Strongest was neither!

Casemiro: Real Madrid deserve title

Santos were holding onto a vital 1-1 draw in the altitude of La Paz in the final minutes when the Brazilians gave away a clear spot-kick.

If Escobar had converted The Strongest would have all but sealed qualification for the Copa Libertadores last-16, but instead he scooped the ball over the bar to send Santos through to the next round.

The Bolivia international looked accusingly at the less than ideal playing surface at the Estadio Hernando Siles, but he has nobody to blame but himself for missing the chance of a lifetime.

The Strongest now have to take at least a draw from their last match of the group stage away to Santa Fe in order to progress to the knockouts.
