VIDEO: Dempsey closes on Donovan's USA goal record after Pulisic assist

The Seattle Sounders veteran's effort against Panama wasn't enough to secure a crucial World Cup qualification win

Clint Dempsey moved to within one goal of Landon Donovan’s all-time record for the USA after opening the scoring in the 1-1 draw with Panama.

Messi-less Argentina could miss World Cup

The former Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur forward scored a hat-trick against Honduras last week and followed up with his 56th goal for his country at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez Gutierrez.

Borussia Dortmund starlet Christian Pulisic was the creator of the goal as he bamboozled the Panama defence before teeing up Dempsey to score.

However, Dempsey’s goal wasn’t enough to secure a vital World Cup qualifying win for the USA as Gabriel Gomez equalised just before half-time.
