There may not have been a fairytale finish to Chapecoense's first-ever Copa Libertadores game in front of their own fans, but Rossi at least gave them something to smile about with a fine goal.

The former Goias striker, who moved to the club in December following the heart-breaking plane crash that claimed the lives of most of the first-team squad, picked up the ball in the area following a scuffed shot. 

Rossi had the presence of mind to fire low past Lanus goalkeeper Esteban Andrada to open the scoring, sparking wild celebrations in Chapeco's Arena Conda. 

Lanus fought back, with goals from Nicolas Aguirre, Jose Sand and Lautaro Acosta giving the Argentines a 3-1 win in their second Libertadores Group 7 outing. 

But Rossi was left with the distinction of scoring the club's first Copa goal at home, as the emotional journey continues.
