Youth tournaments can be where the next generation lay markers for their eventual success. Saturday, Marco Asensio laid down a huge one, in the form of a hat-trick, with some spectacular finishes to boot.
The Real Madrid midfielder, who scored three goals in 23 appearances for the club this season in La Liga, picked up goals in the 16th, 54th, and 72nd minutes of Spain’s 5-0 win over Macedonia in the UEFA Under-21 tournament.
The highlight of the evening was a beautiful curling shot from distance that just tucked under the crossbar in the top corner.
It was the type of performance that left Real Madrid fans on twitter salivating for more, and at least one person to lament Barcelona’s failure to land the 21-year-old Asensio’s signature.
