The Brewers suffered a shock 2-5 defeat against newbies Nzoia Sugar

Kenya and Zesco United midfielder Teddy Akumu feels Tusker FC could have underrated Nzoia Sugar during last weekend's Kenyan Premier League opener between the two sides.

The 2016 National Super League champions defeated the reigning KPL champions 5-2 at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru. Akumu has also warned teams to be wary of his former team Gor Mahia who he feels made good signings.

"In football, you cannot underrate your opponent, it will turn against you and you will be humiliated. I guess that is the same thing that Tusker did and ended up getting embarrassed. A lesson well learnt, they need to wake up and know the season has begun.

"Gor (Mahia) made good signings in January, and the team looks stronger and ready to challenge for silverware. The team is well prepared and I feel it will be a hit this season," he told Goal.

Tusker have lost four competitive matches this season in all competitions.
