Torino’s Joel Obi on target in Sassuolo stalemate

The 26-year-old midfielder opened the scoring at the Mapei Stadium as the Bulls settled for a share of the spoils in Sunday’s Serie A tie

Joel Obi scored Torino’s lone goal as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo.

The former Inter Milan midfielder increased his tally to three goals in 13 league appearances this season as Walter Mazzarri’s men grabbed a crucial point to ensure they remain in the top half of the Serie A table.

Obi punished the hosts for poor defending of a set piece and slotted a left-footed effort past goalkeeper Andrea Consigli to put the Bulls ahead 26 minutes after the kick-off.

However, Domenico Berardi netted the equaliser for the Black and Greens in 54th minute courtesy of an assist from Ghana’s Alfred Duncan.

The Super Eagles midfielder was replaced by in the 73rd minute by Cristian Ansaldi while Duncan, who was shown a yellow card in the 39th minute, was taken off in the 87th minute.

Afriyie Acquah was an unused substitute for the visitors.

The Bulls moved to the ninth spot in the Italian top-flight table with 29 points from 21 games.

Torino welcome Benevento to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino for their next league encounter on January 28.
