Al Ain managed to stay top of the UAE Arabian Gulf League in matchweek 14 despite a 1-1 draw with Shabab Al Ahli which keeps them on 32 points. Following them are Al Wasl on 31 points who managed to make an excellent comeback to beat Sharjah 2-1 and move into 2nd place ahead of Al Wahda, who are on 30 points after dropping points to last place Al Dhafra.
The title race hasn’t been heated up like this in the UAE League in years, with 3 teams within 2 points of each other fighting for the title in a season that concludes after 8 matchweeks. There is no clear favourite for the title, however it is worth noting that Al Ain are undefeated with 9 wins and 5 draws in 14 games.
Elsewhere in the league, Al Nasr defeated defending champions Al Jazira 1-0 to move into 4th place. Ajman, who were winless in the first 5 games of the season, have made a fantastic surge up the top of the table to move into 5th place ahead of Al Jazira in 6th by beating Dibba 2-1. Al Dhafra’s draw against Al Wahda wasn’t enough to move them up the table, as they sit in last place with 9 points. In the relegation battle clash between 10th placed Emirates and 11th placed Hatta ended in a 2-2 draw after Hatta dropping a 2-0 lead in the first half.
Matchweek 15, which kicks off on Friday, will see Al Ain face in form Ajman in 5th place at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium. The big match, however, comes in Abu Dhabi where 3rd placed Al Wahda host 2nd placed Al Wasl to determine who will be Al Ain’s direct challenger in the coming weeks.
