The England international is preferred to Anthony Martial on the left-hand side, while Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are also on the bench.

Mourinho has made a total of nine changes to the side which beat Wigan Athletic 4-0 in the FA Cup on Sunday, with David de Gea, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all returning to the starting lineup.

Martial's exclusion comes after the Portuguese manager was not suitably impressed by the winger's two assists in Sunday's win having left him out of the previous two fixtures.

MAN UTD: De Gea; Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Blind; Carrick (c), Herrera; Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Rashford; Ibrahimovic. Subs: Romero, Mata, Rooney, Martial, Smalling, Lingard, Young.

HULL CITY: Jakupovic, Robertson, Maguire, Meyler, Huddlestone, Clucas, Dawson (c), Niasse, Tymon, Evandro, Markovic. Subs: Marshall, Hernandez. Ranocchia, Elabdellaoui, Maloney, Diomande, Bowen.
