Bruce Arena has opted to start the Sounders attacker as his side faces a crucial qualifier against Honduras.

Bruce Arena has set his side out in a 4-4-2 diamond in the first completive fixture of his second stint as U.S. national team boss.

The USA takes on Honduras at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California, in desperate need of a win after dropping its first two games of the Hexagonal.

Clint Dempsey partners with Jozy Altidore up top, as the Seattle Sounders man returns to the U.S. national team for the first time since last summer's Copa America Centenario after missing several months due to an irregular heartbeat.

Darlington Nagbe and Sebastian Lletget will play the wide midfield roles, with Michael Bradley at holding midfield and Christian Pulisic further forward in the middle.

In the back, Jorge Villafana is preferred over DaMarcus Beasley at left back, with Omar Gonzalez and John Brooks partnered in central defense and Geoff Cameron shifted out to right back.

The U.S. will be forced to play without several regulars, as DeAndre Yedlin, Bobby Wood and Fabian Johnson all missed out on the roster with injuries. Jordan Morris was also scratched from the gameday roster with an injury.
