Kedah head coach Tan Cheng Hoe chalked his men's inability to defeat Selangor in their Super League match on Wednesday down to their loss of focus, in the final minutes of the match.

In the round seven league match at the Selayang Municipal Stadium, the visitors had to wait until the 80th minute to open the scoring through a wonderful Sandro da Silva freekick, due to the home side's defensive approach.

The Red Eagles looked on course to record their fourth league win on the trot, until deep in injury time the referee awarded a penalty to Selangor for a foul on Syahmi Safari. Victoras Astafei's spotkick was stopped by the goalkeeper, but Juliano Mineiro was on hand to tuck in the rebound.

After the match, Cheng Hoe told the match broadcaster in an interview that they had been in control of the game, but was undone by their lapse in concentration in the final minutes.

"We controlled the game and played well throughout the match, but Selangor's fighting spirit and our loss of focus caused us to concede the penalty.

"I hope in the following matches my men will be more focused and mentally strong until the final whistle," said Cheng Hoe.

However he credited Brazilian forward Sandro, who came on as a second half substitute and later in the match scored what initially looked to be Kedah's winning goal.

"After recovering from his injury, Sandro played exceptionally well and scored, congratulations to him.

"He's a key man in our first eleven," praised the Kedah boss.

He nevertheless is confident that his men will bounce back in their next match, a league encounter against Melaka United at home.

"I hope in the next match, against Melaka, the players will work on their confidence," he averred.

Kedah skipper Khairul Helmi Johari's take on the draw however was a little more optimistic.

"We should have won the match, but praise God, one point is better than none at all.

"The boys played well tonight and so did Selangor, and that's why the match ended in a draw," explained the centre back.
