Sikiru Alimi’s goal saw Owena Whales claim their 13th win of the season, granting the midfielder a small reprieve

Anthony Omaka says Sunshine Stars fully deserved the 1-0 win over El Kanemi Warriors which has lifted them off the relegation of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Sikiru Alimi’s first half goal saw the Owena Whales move to the 11th home win of the season.

And the midfielder who put up an awe-inspiring performance claims his side were worthy of the victory, but insists it must be the first of many triumphs if they are to recover from a poor start to the season.

''It was a really good win for us and not minding the low scoreline, we are glad to seal maximum points,’’ Omaka told Goal.

'You saw the reaction of the players and the technical crew – everybody was relieved to get out of the relegation zone.

''We must continue to work for more victories because we still don't have a good number of points to avoid the drop.''

Coach Duke Udi’s men face Wikki Tourists in their next out – and a good result in Bauchi will see the Akure based outfit move to the top half of the log.
