Both Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United started off the year on a winning note on Sunday

Bloemfontein Celtic scored twice in the first half to eventuall register a 2-1 win over Golden Arrows at the Dr Molemela Stadium.

Goals from Victor Letsoalo and Deon Hotto were enough to take them back into the top six, level on points (23) with Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Despite some late attempts from Abafana Bes'thende to at least salvage a point from the game with the effort of Thomas Chideu, the hosts stood firm to claim all the points on offer.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu's winless run continued when they went down 2-0 to Teboho Moloi's Chippa United in Umlazi.

After a disappointing first half where both sides failed to get going in attack, the game sprung to life in the second half.

Former Jomo Cosmos midfielder Linda Mntambo, who was making his debut, netted two goals in quick succession to take the Chilli Boys back into the top eight.

The defeat leaves Usuthu close to the relegation zone as they are only four points off bottom placed Bidvest Wits.
