Steve Komphela wants Kaizer Chiefs to find a way to narrow the gap at the top

The Glamour Boys have won just three of their 11 league matches this season, and Komphela wants to see his side win more games in the coming weeks

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela is optimistic that his side will get their first home league win of the season against Free State Stars on Saturday night.

Amakhosi will welcome Komphela's former club at the Moses Mabhida Stadium desperate to return to winning ways following Wednesday's goalless draw at AmaZulu.

What gives the Chiefs coach hope is the fact that they haven't been conceding too many goals goals this season, and while he expects a tough test against Ea Lla Koto, he remains positive that they will get the three points and close the gap at the top of the PSL log.

The Soweto giants are currently placed sixth on the standings with 15 points from 11 league games, and a win in Durban will see them move to within touching distance of Baroka FC depending on other teams' results.

“We've kept six consecutive clean sheets and no other team in the Premier Soccer League has done this‚" Komphela said.

"Our team is also not defensive but if we were to concede a goal‚ it wouldn't be good, but we still need to convert the chances we're creating. To keep those clean sheets‚ that's impressive," he said.

“Matches against Free State Stars are always difficult and I hope it doesn't rain because when we play them‚ it always rains," added Komphela.

"When it rained in the AmaZulu game‚ I actually started to think whether we're playing Free State Stars but it's always difficult to play them - they are ambitious and very competitive. We need to find a way to win a match to narrow the gap at the top,” concluded Komphela.
