Mauricio Pochettino's side saw off the Saints on Sunday to stretch their unbeaten run and record a 10th successive top-flight win at White Hart Lane

Tottenham remain the closest challengers to Chelsea in the Premier League title race after claiming a 10th successive victory on home soil against Southampton on Sunday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side dug in to claim a 2-1 victory over the Saints, with first-half goals from Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli seeing them over the line.

Tottenham see off the Saints

Spurs are the only side in the English top-flight yet to suffer a defeat on home soil this season.

They are also on a fine run of form in front of their own supporters that has seen them match a 30-year-old record in north London.

Spurs finished third in the 1986-87 campaign, but dipped to 13th the following season once their impressive run on home soil came to an end.

Their sights are firmly locked on a top two standing at present, with second place cemented against the Saints.

Kane 'positive' despite injury

Preserving their unbeaten record at White Hart Lane will be crucial to that cause, with the club having only once before gone an entire campaign without coming unstuck at their north London home – back in 1964-65.

Spurs have closed back to within 10 points of capital rivals Chelsea at the Premier League summit and ensured that there are now seven between them and Manchester United in fifth.
