Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula is confident that his charges will thrash Ingwe in a league derby set for Saturday

AFC Leopards have been warned to expect a thrashing when they face Kakamega Homeboyz in a Kenyan Premier League derby on Saturday.

Homeboyz hammered Ingwe 4-1 in the corresponding fixture last season and club chairman Cleophas Shimanyula now says they will surpass the result as they strive to stamp their authority as the best team from ‘Western region.’

AFC Leopards coach Stewart Hall threatens to resign

“There is no shortcut come this Saturday. We know we will beat them. We are representing the people of Western Kenya while AFC Leopards are playing for the people from Western but based in Nairobi and that is why we must beat them to maintain that supremacy,” Shimanyula told Goal on Thursday.

“We respect them because they have good players and started the season well but we must take three points from them. I foresee a situation where we will beat them by more than five goals. We always like playing against AFC Leopards and that is why the date for this fixture is keenly followed by everyone at Homeboyz.”

Shimanyula admitted that Homeboyz have injury worries ahead of the fixture but remained confident that they will emerge victorious on Saturday. “We have few concerns in regards to injuries but a number of those players will be accessed prior to the match. Whatever the case, AFC Leopards is the kind of fixture we must win at all costs. Nothing will prevent Homeboyz from bagging maximum points.”

AFC Leopards have been struggling this season after a rather good start. Out of the last three matches, they have managed a single point against promoted side Zoo Kericho. Ingwe lost to rivals Gor Mahia 3-0 before falling to Sony Sugar by a solitary goal.

The results have irked coach Stewart Hall, who has blamed his players for the poor show and threatened to resign if they don’t up their game.
