Senegal v. Cote d'Ivoire abandoned after pitch invasion

The West African derby was halted early by a pitch invasion with the sides still locked at 1-1

Sadio Mane and Gohi Bi Zoro Cyriac were the scorers as Ivory Coast fought back to pull level against Senegal in an international friendly played at the Stade Sebastien Charlety in Paris on Monday, before the contest was halted due to a fan invasion.

Liverpool attacker Mane converted a 68th-minute spot kick to make it 1-0 to the Teranga Lions, but Fulham attacker Cyriac capitalized on sloppy defending to draw the Elephants level two minutes later.

The match was abaonded in the 88th minute after Senegal fans began to invade the pitch, with the Lions of Teranga defender Lamine Gassama being rugby tackled by a fan.

On the back of a convincing 2-0 victory over Russia in an international friendly match played in Krasnodar last Friday, the Elephants could not record their second successive victory under caretaker coach Ibrahim Kamara, although they will be pleased with the results over the two friendlies after the embarrassment they suffered at the Nations Cup in Gabon earlier this year.

The Cote d’Ivoire looked to build on to the momentum by only making one change, with Nicolas Pepe starting in place of Jonatha Kodjia, who had scored the opener against Russia.

The two West African giants exchanged blows before Mane struck the opener in the 68th minute, converting a spot kick after Simon Deli had fouled Keita Balde.

The lead didn't last long, as the Teranga Lions' defence went to sleep and allowed Cyriac to sneak home the equaliser past Sylvain Gbohouo after the Senegal backline had struggled to deal with Pepe's clever through ball from the halfway line.

The match was called off after fans swarmed the pitch, but with 90 percent of the match having already been played, the result will stand.
