Ahead of their Super League (MSL) match away to Johor Darul Ta'zim this Saturday, Selangor's utility player Veenod Subramaniam has said that the Red Giants cannot afford to lose to the home side.

Despite their earlier convincing start to the season, last week in matchday three the Red Giants were brought down to earth by a surprising 5-3 defeat to local rivals PKNS FC.

Thus it is imperative for Selangor to avoid losing to Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) this weekend, said the 28-year old.

"This season so far, Selangor have defeated Pulau Pinang 2-0, drawn 1-1 against Melaka United FC, but lost 5-3 to PKNS.

"Selangor definitely cannot lose to JDT this Saturday as it will mean a second consecutive defeat. We have to work hard at Larkin as we cannot afford to lose again," he was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

Despite their intention to avoid losing against the defending league champions, the Red Giants however are only planning to hold the hosts to a draw, said the Pulau Pinang-born player.

"We will probably play defensively this Saturday, although this depends on the situation.

"If possible, we want to surprise (the home team) by taking home three points, but a draw will be good enough. What's important is we must avoid losing," said Veenod.
