Sevilla caused Espanyol all kinds of problems in their LaLiga clash on Saturday and the Budgerigars were eventually silenced 3-0 at home.

Vincenzo Montella’s men put up a commanding display as goals from Franco Vazquez, Pablo Sarabia and Luis Muriel handed them a rare victory at the RCDE Stadium.

The result meant Espanyol dropped to 14th in the standings, having bowed four times at home this season.

Despite this setback, captain Victor Sanchez – who was replaced after 46 minutes by Javi Fuego - is convinced that his side will bounce back from their loss though.

“It was a difficult game despite the fact that my teammates showed a lot of enthusiasm,” Sanchez told Goal.

“We thought we could grind out a result to help us move up on the league table and drive towards a place in Europe, but we ended up on the losing side.

“This made us very sad, but we were able to learn some important lessons which will help us going forward as we hope to do things correctly.

“Up until the defeat to Sevilla, the team was doing well and we need to continue with this dynamics to bounce back. Today it is broken, tomorrow promises to be a better time for us.

“It is our ambition to go back to winning ways. We made mistakes we don’t usually make and we got punished for it by letting in three unreplied goals.

“One thing is certain; it is always difficult to win games after conceding three goals especially when playing at home.

Espanyol face Leganes in their next match at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on Sunday. The Legionaries are placed 13th with 25 points after 19 rounds of games.
