Salami sees red in KuPS Finnish Cup defeat

Nigeria international Gbolahan Salami was sent off in KuPS were reduced to 10 men in their 2-1 defeat to FC Ilves.

Salami was shown the exit door, two minutes after Reuben Ayarnav had put the host ahead inside Tammelan Stadium but Ilmari Niskanen ensured Jani Honkavaara's men went into the break levelled despite a man down.

Ariel Thierry Ngueukam scored the winner for the home team in the with just 21 minutes left to play, making it KuPS first defeat for the year in six games.

Salami was KuPS top scorer last season after breaking the club's goals record with 14 goals in 31 games. He will hope to lead the Savon Sanomat Areena outift past their ninth place finish last season when the new season kicks off in April against HJK.
