Salami scores, Egwuekwe registers own goal in KuPS’ win

The Nigeria striker got the curtain raiser for the Yellow-Blacks to lead them to their first win of the season in the topflight

Gbolahan Salami was on target as KuPS defeated Inter Turku 2-1 in a Finnish Premier League encounter on Monday afternoon.

Salami started alongside compatriot, Azubuike Egwuekwe for Jani Honkavaara’s side at the Savon Sanomat Areena against the Black and Blues.

The 26-year-old striker got the curtain raiser, his first in the league this season, a minute before the half-hour mark but had his side’s advantage cancelled when Egwuekwe turned the ball into his own net in the 38th minute.

With 12 minutes before full time, second half substitute Ats Purje rescued the tie for the Yellow-Blacks with the winner.

After suffering defeat in their opening game of the season, Salami’s side are now sixth with three points from two games.

In their next league encounter, KuPS will face VPS on April 22.
