Over the weekend, the first round of the 2017 FA Cup was played out, with three third tier sides advancing to the second round, along with two other sides that have advanced after their opponents had pulled out of the competition.

On Sunday, last season's FAM Cup semi-finalists Felcra FC defeated Penjara FC 2-0 at the Kajang Prison Mini Stadium. The Rivals needed only three minutes to open the scoring, through a penalty converted by Firdaus Azizul. They then added their second two minutes from halftime, through Shazuan Ashraf Mathews' goal.

Meanwhile Selangor Malays Football Association FC (PBMS) defeated Melaka Water Corporation FC (SAMB) 1-0 at the Hang Tuah Stadium on the same day, thanks to Fadli Baharuddin's 62nd minute goal.

On Monday, 2012 FA Cup runners up Sime Darby FC thumped Shahzan Muda FC 3-0 at the Selayang Municipal Stadium. Zul Fahmi Awang opened the scoring in the 19th minute, before Dzulfahmi Abdul Hadi added their second just one minute into the second half. Nine minutes later, Nazrul Kamaruzaman made it three nil.

They will be joining fellow FAM Cup sides Petaling Jaya Rangers FC (PJRFC) and MOF FC in the second round, after both sides' respective scheduled first round opponents; Sg Ara FC and DYS FC had withdrawn from taking part in the competition this year, despite having participated in the cup draw in December last year.

Although PJRFC, MOF, Felcra and Sime Darby will face Premier League or FAM Cup sides in the next round, PBMS have an uphill battle to climb, as they will take on star-studded Perak at the Perak Stadium.

The second round fixtures are scheduled to be played on February 14.
