Ronaldinho was from a different planet – Lampard

The former Chelsea star says that the Brazilian easily stood out even in a star-studded Barcelona side

Frank Lampard says he thought Ronaldinho was from a different planet when he first encountered the Brazilian star.

Lampard called time on a glittering 21-year career last week following two seasons with MLS side New York City FC.

The 38-year-old is best known for his exploits with Chelsea, and it was with the Blues when he first saw Ronaldinho do his magic.

"The [Barcelona] team after his were known as the better ones, when Messi really came through, but Ronaldinho could do impossible things with the ball," Lampard told Chelsea’s matchday programme.

"I’d never seen a player like that. It was my early knockings in the Champions League and seeing him play was like, 'Wow, this player is from a different planet to the rest of us'."

Lampard's Chelsea side faced Ronaldinho and Barcelona six times between 2005 and 2006, with each side taking home two wins, two losses and two draws.
