De Sa is well aware that chances of him becoming the new Bafana head coach are slim, but he hasn't lost hope of becoming their assistant coach

Former Maritzburg United and Ajax Cape Town coach Roger de Sa has expressed his desire to work with Stuart Baxter as his assistant should the South African Football Association (Safa) appoint the 63-year-old as head coach of Bafana Bafana.

De Sa, who is currently without a job after leaving the Team of Choice last month, feels Baxter is the right man for job given his impressive record in the PSL.

"At the moment, no one has contracted me from Safa. I'm in Cape Town with my family," De Sa told Isolezwe.

"If I get the opportunity to be Bafana's assistant coach, I won't turn it down - working for the national team is something big," he said.

"I heard that Safa is talking to Baxter. His PSL record is very good. I would be very happy to work with someone like him because I believe he can help me grow as a coach," continued RDS.

"We are not friends and we have never fought. So, our relationship is good,"  he revealed.

The 52-year-old dismissed suggestions that his coaching career would be taking a step back if agrees to work with Baxter as his assistant.

He revealed that the role would be different to what he's currently used to in the PSL.

"Being an assistant coach won't be a step back. Working for a national team is not the same as working for an ordinary team. There are many coaches out there who left their jobs as head coaches to become assisant coaches," he said.

"Baxter is one of the coaches I respect, and that's why I won't mind working him. Yes, we are managed by the same agency. I've spoken to Steve (Kapeluschnik who manages both De Sa and Baxter), but he didn't say anything about what we are discussing now," he concluded.
