Robbie Slater slams Melbourne Victory coaches after send offs

The former Socceroo is adamant they must pay the price for their extraordinary actions

After Melbourne Victory assistant coaches Jean Paul de Marigny and Dean Anastasiadis were shown red cards for an on-field altercation with Sydney FC player David Carney on Saturday night, Robbie Slater has slammed their behaviour.

The duo ran onto the pitch in extra time after Terry Antonis scored what would be the match-winning goal in the 117th minute and ultimately got in a physical confrontation with Carney.

Both were eventually sent off after a frantic few minutes and Slater is adamant they must be punished appropriately.

"They will not be sitting on the bench in the grand final," Slater told Big Sports Breakfast

"Whatever happens, whatever was said on the field, it doesn’t matter - you can’t run on the field.

"That’s just crap. That’s just out of order.

"It’s a mistake you will pay for."

The semi-final was a dramatic affair on and off the pitch with Sydney FC equalising in the final 15 seconds of regular time through an Antonis own-goal before the midfielder atoned himself in extra time.

Victory's win means they'll play Newcastle Jets next week in the A-League grand final with Sydney FC's quest for back-to-back championships ended by a result Slater believes was a fair one for a team that had finished the regular season 14 points clear in first.

"Probably the right result in the end," he said.

"Sydney FC have only got themselves to blame.

"Sydney certainly weren’t at their best. For me they spoke too much during the week."
