The former Liverpool and Sheffield Wednesday defender has highlighted the signing of the Algeria international as one of his wishes for the Reds

Steve Nicol believes that Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez would be 'absolutely fantastic' at Liverpool.

The 26-year-old who has scored seven goals in 22 league games this campaign has been heavily linked to fill the void left by Philippe Coutinho in Jurgen Klopp's setup.

The Kops are understood to be searching for a replacement for the departed Brazil star who completed a club-record move to Barcelona earlier this week.

And Nicol who spent 14 years at the Merseyside club stated that the Algerian playmaker is a player he would sign instantly, and has urged the Reds to secure his service.

"I'd have him in a heartbeat, but I heard a story that Klopp wasn't that keen on him, which is disappointing, but I think he'd be absolutely fantastic at Liverpool,” Nicol told ESPN.

"I'm going to say this is a hit because I wish and I want it to happen so I'm going to say it's a hit."
