The two experienced players are looking for a new home ahead of the new 2018/19 campaign

Former Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Bidvest Wits will reportedly sign Vuyo Mere and Lehlohonolo Nonyane.

The two defenders are currently on trial at the club and available on free transfers.

Nonyane left Lamontville Golden Arrows after the Durban-based outfit decided against renewing the contract last month.

Mere parted ways with relegated Platinum Stars, who are now known as Cape Umoya United FC at the end of last season.

According to an IOL source, both players have impressed Wits head coach Gavin Hunt.

"I think they will sign Vuyo. Gavin (Hunt, Wits coach) loves him. He feels that he is going to be the right replacement for Nazeer Allie who has just left the club," the source sain.

"He wanted to have a look at him closer. Nonyane was told to bring his ID which is a clear indication that they are planning to sign," the source revealed.

Despite being 34, Mere made 35 appearances in all competitions for Stars last season. The defender-come-midfielder won two PSL titles with Sundowns, before joining Stars in 2011.

Mere would offer stiff competition to promising full-back Reeve Frosler, who has made the right-back position his own at Wits.

Nonyane, who struggled with injuries during his two-year spell with Arrows, featured in only nine league appearances last season.

The former Jomo Cosmos player, who will turn 32 in December 2018, would be seen a direct competition for Wits defender S'fiso Hlanti at left-back.

Wits has already acquired the services of players like Bantu Mzwakali, Robyn Johannes, Gift Motupa, Brighton Mhlongo and Deon Hotto.

While Daine Klate, Jabulani Shongwe, Vincent Pule, Nazeer Allie and James Keene have all left the Braamfontein-based side.

The Clever Boys will be looking to challenge for major trophies next season after enduring a disappointing a 2017/18 campaign.
