Following the Red Giants' decision to re-register Indonesia star Andik Vermansyah in their M-League competitions squad on Wednesday, on Friday they announced that they have decided not to extend Romanian attacker Victor Astafei's contract beyond the first half of the season.

Andik's return meant Selangor have exceeded the four-foreign player quota imposed on Malaysian clubs competing in the Super League and the Premier League, and they had to release one of their import players.

The decision has also answered a question that has been on the minds of many fans and observers alike; who will be forced to make way for Andik in the mid-season transfer window.

Selangor boss Maniam Pachaiappan told Goal that the decision to let go of the 29-year old, who joined them at the start of the season on a half-season contract, was not an easy one to make.

"It is a hard decision as he has given his best. I respect him, he's very committed, he's all there during training, has not missed training and acted up.

"He has conducted himself professionally, and got along well with his teammates as well," explained Maniam.

At the time this article was published, Astafei has not responded to our enquiries for comment.

The Romanian has made 12 appearances for the Red Giants in all competitions this season, all as a starter except for one, and scored three goals, including his equaliser against Melaka United on February 27, his debut for them.
