The Spaniards start their pursuit of another title against rank outsiders who have already caused two massive upsets

Double champions of Europe, Real Madrid begin their quest to be crowned double champions of the world when they face Al Jazira on Wednesday in the Club World Cup semi-final.

The Spanish outfit have struggled so far this season and are off the pace in La Liga and face a difficult hurdle to overcome in the Champions League when they tackle Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16, but they are hot favourites to win this competition once more.

Zinedine Zidane has taken every available player in his first team with him to the UAE to play this tournament.

Changes to his regular starting XI are possible as he will want his players to be in prime condition to face Gremio in the final - and Barcelona in La Liga in only 10 days.

Raphael Varane has apparently shaken a muscular issue and could play, while Gareth Bale is also fit.

Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Dani Carvajal missed training earlier this week but should be available.

Jesus Vallejo travelled with the squad but has not been registered with FIFA to play.

Potential starting XI: Navas; Carvajal, Ramos, Varane, Marcelo; Vazquez, Kroos, Modric, Asensio; Benzema, Ronaldo

GAME PREVIEW

Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid

Real Madrid will begin their quest to win the Club World Cup for the second time in succession against an Al Jazira side that were expected simply to make up the numbers in the competition.

The host team might be the champions of UAE, but against the continental winners from Oceania and Asia, they were not expected to be competitive. However, head coach Henk ten Cate, a former assistant at Barcelona, no less, has his side firing.

Veteran attacker Mbark Boussoufa is the player most fans are likely to recognise, having had spells at Anderlecht, Anzhi and Lokomotiv Moscow, yet surely this miracle run cannot continue against the European champions.

This tournament may not be Madrid's top priority, but their sheer wealth of talent should be enough to guide them safely through.
