RB Leipzig's record signing Naby Keita has taken the Bundesliga by storm since his arrival from Salzburg, but the 22-year-old Guinea international has set his sights on reaching a level of success on par with Lionel Messi.
The midfielder has six goals and eight assists in 23 league appearances for his new club and is attracting stares from Europe's elite.
And while Keita admits he tells himself he is “the best player on the pitch” before each match, he is taking fame in his stride and knows that true greatness is a process.
“I don’t know what my future holds, but I want to keep improving,” Keita told the official Bundesliga site. “I see my life and career as a ladder that I want to climb rung by rung.
“Right now I’m a relatively small, unimportant footballer, but I want to grow and experience success. I dream of being the best player in Africa, and one day the world.
“Messi is the best footballer on the planet right now, and I’d like to experience similar successes to him.”
Despite an incredible start to the season, Leipzig currently sit second in the Bundesliga, 13 points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich.
