Rashford reveals Rooney's special talk to every England player after Iceland embarrassment

Marcus Rashford has revealed that Wayne Rooney delivered a special message to every England player in the dressing room after the embarrassing Euro 2016 exit at the hands of minnows Iceland.

The result, a 2-1 defeat in Nice, cost Roy Hodgson his job and left the England players to deal with the media and fan backlash to what was a considerable shock at the hands of Lars Lagerback's side.

But Rashford, who came on in the 86th minute of that now infamous game, insists that Rooney spoke to each player individually after the game to spur them to bounce back in the future.

He wrote on his Instagram page: "When we were knocked out by Iceland at the Euros, it was a massive disappointment.

"We were all sitting around in the dressing room after the match, not sure what to think. But then Wayne gets up. And he says one thing. “Keep your head up. We’ve got a lot to fight for in the future. Look forward.'

"But he says it to each individual person. One by one, he goes up to us and looks us in the eye. So that’s where we are now. Our heads are up and we’re fighting for the future.

"I know I’m young -- the whole squad is quite young -- but we want to make history in the time we’ve got. We know that when people look back on our team, it’s the trophies people are going to judge us on."

Rashford is in manager Gareth Southgate's squad for the upcoming international fixtures against Germany and Lithuania, with the Three Lions looking to extend their run of five games unbeaten.
