Luis Enrique has decided to rest the centre-back for Saturday's La Liga encounter, with Sergi Roberto and Denis Suarez also omitted from the squad

Gerard Pique has been left out of Barcelona's squad to face Las Palmas in La Liga on Saturday, with Luis Enrique opting to rest the centre-back.

Messi business another Barca PR disaster

The head coach has a fully fit squad to choose from but has opted to leave Pique, full-back Sergi Roberto and midfielder Denis Suarez out of his 18-man party.

Andre Gomes, Aleix Vidal and Jeremy Mathieu are back having missed out when Barca completed a Copa del Rey comeback against Athletic Bilbao in midweek.

The famously outspoken Pique has placed himself at the centre of controversy over recent weeks, having questioned decisions made by officials during Barca's first-leg loss at Bilbao in the round of 16 and last weekend's 1-1 draw at Villarreal.

The Spain international has since stood by his criticism, stating: "I still believe in what I say and every week makes me more in the right. You could clearly see it, I think it's very clear what happened on the pitch.

Barca currently sit five points behind league leaders Real Madrid heading into Saturday's encounter, with their fierce rivals taking on second-placed Sevilla on Sunday.
