Pienaar yet to return to Bidvest Wits training, while Damjanovic has been released

Both Pienaar and Damjanovic have not enjoyed the best of times at the Students after moving to Braamfontein at the beginning of the season

According to reports, Bidvest Wits have parted ways with Slavko Damjanovic, while Steven Pienaar is yet to return to training following the Christmas break.

Both Pienaar and the Montenegrin were roped in at the beginning of the campaign to much fanfare but have since failed to live up to expectations and have seen themselves fall even further down coach Gavin Hunt’s pecking order.

Nonetheless, with talk of an exit for the pair having gained traction, the Students are reportedly set to undergo a major clear-out as they look to plot their way out of the relegation zone in January and reports state that Damjanovic has in fact been released. This will only further the speculation surrounding the future of Pienaar who is yet to report for training after the festive season break.

However, if the veteran midfielder who joined Wits amid great interest from several other Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs, he will need to follow in the footsteps of the 25-year-old defender who has agreed to mutually terminate his contract and is now on the lookout for a new club.

Nevertheless, with only days remaining until the January transfer window, it remains to be seen where the future lies for the former Everton and Sunderland midfielder.
