Guardiola: Aguero asked for restaurant talks

The City coach met with his striker in a Manchester restaurant on Thursday night and he says it came at the Argentine's request

Pep Guardiola has revealed that his meeting with Sergio Aguero came at the striker's request, though the Manchester City boss insists it was anything out of the ordinary.

Guardiola, Aguero and the striker's agent held late night discussions in a Manchester restaurant on Thursday evening.

Mystery surrounds Aguero's contract situation at City, given he is believed to have signed an extension to his current deal almost exactly a year ago.

There has been no official confirmation of that agreement, however, and there are other factors, including City's pursuit of other big-name strikers, which suggest Aguero's long-term future at the club is far from assured.

When questioned about the meeting at his Friday press conference, Guardiola insisted Aguero's contract situation was not up for discussion.

"No," he said. "We didn’t speak about the contract. He has a long contract here.

"He has a lot of money. He wanted to invite his coach to have dinner. That's what it is."
